Pier 55

Interpretive Drawings of Little Island in New York, New York
Date: Fall 2025

This graphic traces the flows and transformations of Little Island, with seasons on the y-axis and softscape-to-hardscape on the x-axis. Yet the park resists simplification: plantings spill into paths, weather alters use, and people, animals, and insects animate the space. This constant blending creates a lively, ever-changing public realm.

Sound and spatial density shape the visitor experience, mapped like a musical score--higher notes for louder, busier areas, lower notes for quieter ones. The main path follows typical circulation, while an alternate ramped route provides an accompaniment. Rhythmic circulation makes the park feel larger than its actual footprint.
